Aurora time!

Here is a progression if how I came up with my painting for December.  I wanted to get a nice aurora borealis, but in a shrunk down canvas to make this doable in a short time frame.  I also wanted to squeeze a cabin in there.

The main trouble was the placement and shape of the light curtains, to make them either go across the sky horizontal, or to give the impression they were fading away to the distance.

So here they are ,with the final version top left.  I started out doing Bob’s Auroras Dance as a jumping off point, then decided to drop the trees, which were really fun and turned out well, to bushy trees that would be easier for a beginner.  Fence became optional, same with a pond.  The focus should lie on the cabin, which will be the main learning point of the class.

Two New events for November

November 11th is my monthly Hobby Lobby event, doing Bob’s Splendor of Winter variation.  Should be an easier painting than last months, as there are fewer colors and elements to this beautiful snowy landscape.  See the calendar for more details!

November 17th is the 3rd Annual Vendor and Family Night at Lanigan Elementary.  My daughter went here just after we moved into Farmington Hills, and we attended the 1st annual event. What a cool quick event from 6pm to 8pm.  Ill have a table to advertise my classes, have some paintings on display and may be doing a demo as well.

Hobby Lobby event update

Another class completed, 4 students today in Monroe.  This was a more challenging painting than the last one, full of color and various trees and grasses.  My students are with a watercolor painting group, trying their hand with the Bob Ross oil style. Should I branch out and try watercolors?? Hmm.  Really challenging for sure!  Here are 3 of the students’ work:20171014_152527.jpg

Oops forgotten update.

I totally forgot to update the site after last weeks silent auction benefit.  It was a pretty big success from what I could see.  Lots of donations of signed sports, baskets of various things, other art and sundries to bid on.

I had a great time painting live, entertained some kids as well as the adults, gave away a total of four paintings to the cause.

If anyone is seeing this and has an event or fundraiser, I would be more than willing to do what I can, where I can, to contribute to YOUR worthy cause!

Hey, why not!

I just realized I never posted my newly renovated studio space!  Check out Nature’s Brush Studio official headquarters.  It all starts here:FB_IMG_1507389183613This was the setup for the event i held for the group doing the black and white painting, so I put various examples on the wall to set the mood.

Successful event!

A great time with all these fine ladies, who were all first timers at a free class I put on with my friend Stacey who manages this apartment community.  Check how well they did.  You are never too old or too inexperienced to have success with this method!20170930_163855
