An update

Had a great meal with my oldest friend last weekend.  His girlfriend and my wife get along great!  She also has some contacts with her family and work, and I may be able to donate a full class to her senior housing center.  I think it could be fun, certainly challenging, in teaching a full class of senior citizens the Bob Ross way..

Be sure to check out my instagram feed on the right hand side there, until i get a better build of a gallery on this site, that would be the best way to see all my latest paintings.  Take care all.

Things always come up..

Trying to get painting done is tough when there is always demands on your time!  This weekend is the long delayed basement upgrade progress, choosing new carpet and laminate flooring (for the art studio part).

We had a small water intrusion (i.e flooded) back in March, and for some reason, our insurance did not cover it!  Gar…  Well, we decided to pull the carpet up rather than risk mold.  So we now are choosing our carpet and we made the decision to lay down floating laminate flooring in the section where my painting studio is.

This will allow us to have our basement back (XBOX and comfy chairs), as well as have a place to paint without worrying as much about paint spills and have an area to teach!  I’m really looking forward to both (and getting all the stuff we stored upstairs back into the basement).  Pictures to follow of course once we have this installed.

Sometimes you just have to step back..

Doing this painting last night, I prepared by watching Bob’s episode Ocean Sunrise a few times.  Going to work on it, I sort of forgot a few steps, went back to the episode, watched a bit, painted a bit and so forth.  After I finished the sky and started on the wave, I just had to start doing it on my own.  There is a lot of ways and methods for creating a wave and many of the steps can be done in a different order, and with different brushes.  Step back, think about what YOU want to do next, then do it!

Work with what works for you!  That is the tip I would give today.  Some might have better luck with the fan brush, some with the filbert, some with even the knife!  Do what you want with what feels right.  But don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while and try new things.  Happy accidents can and will happen.  Don’t worry about it.  Every painting is a learning experience in one way or another.

Have fun and happy painting!#167oceansunrise

A long delayed update! I am now a CRI

img_20161030_205331Yes, it has been a long time between updates, but one of my long time dreams has come to pass.  I have completed my CRI training!  So much time and effort were put into this.  I met some great people and of course the instructors, Doug and Eddie were awesome, so informative, nice, funny, etc etc.

I could go on and on about how much fun the classes were (and some of my peers blogged everyday), but now I am home and despite a backlog of summer activities and family obligations, I am dedicated to starting this path to becoming a regular teacher in this fun and challenging method of painting.  Join me!

Please come back on occasion and see the new changes I have planned for the site, as well as (hopefully soon!) a schedule of upcoming classes!

Bob Ross certification week 1 complete!

What a week!   I drove to Florida over 2 days and spent a week in lovely New Smyrna Beach, where I attended the Bob Ross Certified Instructor training.   It is a 3 week course but I only was able to attend the first week.

I had a blast painting along with roughly 20 other students from all over the country and even a few international ones!  The instructors, Doug and Eddie were consummate professionals and led the class in a timely and efficient manner.   Plus, lots of coffee and cookies all day which was appreciated 🙂

Each day we did one painting, usually with a step by step tutorial, except for Friday where we painted it all at once after watching Doug paint the whole thing.

I learned a lot and felt the class was very worth it.  It helped me get better and will definitely be useful in both increasing my skills as a painter and a teacher.

I put the 5 paintings in my gallery, they should be at the top when the page loads.

Just another update

IMG_20160507_205639Well, it has been quite a bit of time since my last update (not that i have had any readers heh) but I figured i would update anyway, so there!

The interview with Art Is In Market went very well, and was offered retail space to sell my paintings, but in the end I decided that it was not the venue for me to pursue at this time. Everyone that I spoke with there was very nice, and would encourage a visit to 12 Oaks Mall to check out the store, as they have many fine products for sale by local artisans.

The end of the month is when I leave for my first week long class for Bob Ross Certified Instructor training, so Im getting pumped for that!

Other than that, I have been painting more and more, with an update to my gallery. Check it out!

A fine day.

Things are going well for me, more paintings have been completed and a couple of major updates. I am planning a trip to Florida at the end of summer to begin my certification as a Bob Ross instructor very excited about this!!

I am also getting ready to have an interview with a store at The Twelve Oaks mall called Art is in Market.  They are a supporter of Michigan artists and crafters and have many different booths for all sorts of people to display and sell their creations and I hope to be included in this! So everyone or anyone who actually reads any of my updates wish me luck!

Another craft show completed!

Well I have done my second craft show for the year last week in Davison Michigan. It was a wonderful time, meeting new people, showcasing my paintings, as well as doing live demonstrations throughout the day. I even got some help from local children who were wandering through the craft show with their parents and they helped me to complete a painting which I then raffled off to one of the lucky helpers!

Between setting up my shop to make some new wood frames that I plan on selling, as well as painting a lot, I have had not had a ton of time to update this blog as much as I would like. Hopefully I will have several new sizes of paintings available in my shop which you can find at the link above as well as more shows to do and other opportunities that I’m pursuing. Take care and drop me a line if you have any questions!

Well i should have done this earlier

Wow, what a response to my facebook post.  Many new views bother here and my store, as well as a contact about a possible commission.

I’m also pleased to announce a new category of paintings soon to be on my store.  I have been working on a smaller sizes 5″x7″  on both canvas boards, as well as canvas sheets that I will be mounting on boards myself.  As soon as these are dry of course…  I also created a couple of battles 3 x3 micro paintings, more as an exercise  than anything else.
